In order to create the Storage Pool in the DPM you can use the following three types of Disk Storages,

  1. Direct attached storage (DAS)
  2. Storage area networks (SAN)
  3. Windows-certified iSCSI devices

Note: It is possible to add RAID volumes to your storage pool, but some common RAID configurations, such as RAID 5, are less suitable for use with DPM because of the characteristics of their write performance. Furthermore, if you’re planning to use iSCSI devices for the storage pool, don’t forget to run the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator. It’s available to download via the following link, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=12cb3c1a-15d6-4585-b385-befd1319f825&displaylang=en
