Posted on September 19th, 2009 in Data Protection Manager
Firstly, remember that Microsoft encourage everyone to use a 64-bit servers to install the DPM 2007. But this doesn’t stop you installing the DPM on a 32-bit server.
Other requirements are as follows,
| Component | Minimum Requirement | Recommended Requirement |
| Processor | 1 GHz or faster. | 2.33 GHz quad-core CPUs or more |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM or more |
| Page files | 0.2 percent the size of all recovery point volumes combined, in addition to the recommended size (Generally, 1.5 times the amount of RAM on the computer). If you have set the Page File to managed by the System, make sure you have plenty of Disk space available as per the above guidelines. | Anything above Minimum |
| Disk space for DPM installation | Program files drive: 410 MB.Database files drive: 900 MB.System drive: 2650 MB. (2.65 GB)Large System Drive space is necessary if you decided to run the SQL Express setup which comes with the DPM Setup files. If else, you need to find another SQL Host in your network, then the Disk space requirement will be considerably low. | 2–3 GB of free space on the program files drive:DPM requires a minimum of 300 MB of free space on each protected volume for the change journal. Additionally, before archiving data to tape, DPM copies the file catalogue to a DPM temporary installation location. |
| Disk space for Storage pool | 1.5 times the size of the protected data.Remember that DPM doesn’t support any USB or Firewire (1394) installed Disks as its Storage pool. | 2–3 times the size of the protected data. |
| Logical unit number (LUN) | If you have critical data that you want to store, you can use a high-performance logical unit number (LUN) on a Storage Area Network (SAN) rather than the DPM-managed storage pool. | If the Disks are GUID partition table (GPT) dynamic disks, then DPM supports up to Maximum of 17 TB. If the Disks are Master boot record (MBR) disks, then DPM supports up to Maximum of 2 TB. |
